Grants Coding
Grant coding includes:
Regularly updating the grants coding database (GCDB) with grant information from NIH
Categorization of grants to capture over 1100 attributes in categories such as exposures, health outcomes, life stage, and experimental approaches
Quality checks of grant categorization to ensure accuracy and reproducibility
Updating the cohort discovery and update system with attributes for funded cohorts
Extracting coding data from the database and regularly updating portfolios on various topics such as Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Superfund Research Program (SRP)
Making improvements to the GCDB and related MS Access front end
Avanti conducts categorization of the grants, which involves reviewing the grants and capturing a variety of different attributes such as exposures, health outcomes, and life stage. The categorization allows DERT to manage grant awards, ensure collaboration, and track where funding is allocated.
Grants Analysis
Avanti drafts summary documents and holds debriefing meetings to support scientific research and management programs. Support includes needs assessments and providing portfolio evaluations:
Creating up to 50 portfolios annually based on the categorization in the Grants Coding Database
Creating up to 50 bibliographies annually based on staff approved portfolios
Maintaining and updating listservs
Topics for portfolios and bibliographies prepared include Climate Change, Autism, Partnerships for Environmental Public Health (PEPH), Basic and Applied Research Minority Health/Health Disparities, Environmental Justice, Children’s Environmental Health, and Biomedical Research Advanced Information Network (BRAIN).
meeting support
The division of Extramural Research and Training at the National Institute of Environmental Health (NIEHS) oversees research and research training for the Institutes. Avanti has transitioned their robust lecture, workshop, and meeting agenda to accommodate the need to be virtual. All logistics for planning, producing, and hosting the online and live meetings are provided for 10 workshops/conferences and 15 webinars annually.
